Flat Roof FAQs

Here are some of the flat roof questions we are regularly asked by clients in Lancashire:

How long should a rubber roof last?

EPDM rubber is not broken down by the sun or by normal Burnley weather such as snow, rain and wind. Maintained properly, a rubber roof can last in excess of 50 years.

What is an EPDM roof?

EPDM rubber roofs have become hugely popular as a much longer lasting alternative to traditional felt. The synthetic rubber membrane is usually fully bonded to a flat deck and has a proven life expectancy in excess of 50 years.

Is rubber better than felt for a flat roof?

Both are good choices. EPDM is strong, long lasting and very low maintenance, and on most domestic roofs it is laid in one piece. Felt is a more cost effective option and is reliable and well established. If you have the budget, we recommend EPDM rubber.

Can EPDM be used on a pitched roof?

EPDM can be used on low pitched roofs, and our Burnley flat roof installers regularly bond the membrane on low pitched roofs such as sheds, garden rooms and porches.
