Chimney Repairs

Chimney Repointing

Yorkshire towns and villages are full of stone chimneys that have stood for a century or more. Frost, wind and rain slowly work away at the pointing and flaunching, and once water gets into a stack it can cause damp inside the house.

We repair chimneys of every size, from repointing a single stack to rebuilding one that has become unsafe. We also renew the flaunching around the pots, fit cowls and bird guards, and cap chimneys that are no longer used.

Every chimney repair starts with an inspection from the roof. We photograph the stack so you can see what we see, and give you a written price before any work starts.

Good to know

Chimney Repairs: common questions

How often do chimneys need repointing?

Pointing usually lasts decades, but exposed stacks weather faster. If the mortar is crumbling or recessed, it is time.

What is flaunching?

The sloped mortar around the base of the chimney pots that throws water off the top of the stack. When it cracks, water gets into the chimney.

Is my chimney unsafe?

A leaning stack, loose pots or bricks and stones that have moved are signs it needs urgent attention. Call us and we will look.

Can you match stone or old brick?

Yes. We match the stone or brick and the mortar as closely as possible so the repair suits the property.

Do you cap unused chimneys?

Yes. Capping keeps rain out of a chimney you no longer use while still letting it ventilate.

Still have a question?

Call or email and we will talk it through with you. There is no charge for advice or a survey.
